Kenny Schick is a… Music Producer, Multi-Instrumentalist, Orchestrator, Arranger, Recording Engineer, Mixing Engineer, Mastering Engineer, Solo Artist, Singer Songwriter, Live Sound Engineer, Photographer & Videographer
I love helping people create recordings of their songs that they completely fall in love with, and I am happy that I can help artists develop and define their sound by drawing from my years of experience, successes, and failures alike. If you don’t live in Nashville, no worries at all! Technology has really changed the way the recording process works, and a vast majority of my clients work with me remotely.
I fell in love with the recording process originally from the performer’s side of the microphone—I was always an artist first, like so many of the artists I currently work with. Developing a deep passion for the recording process, I always made sure to have a way of recording at home starting as far back as the mid 80’s. I always engineered and mixed for all the bands I was in, and started recording my own solo work in my own home studio in the early 90’s.
I write, perform, produce and release my own multi-genre music as well and I take it as seriously as I do everything. I might bet labeled a singer/songwriter simply because I play solo, with my weathered acoustic Martin Guitar support a lilting tenor vocal, but I’m lucky to have a loyal following because those who experience my shows hopefully find a lot more than just another guy with a guitar.
Having played and written in many genres in my long performing career which began at the age of 13. I have a long history in playing and performing rock, jazz, punk, country, reggae, dub, world music, pop and classical in many bands. My diverse experiences in music influence and color my writing and playing.
I like to put on entertaining live shows with passion, laughter, tears and thoughtful craftsmanship. Hopefully my thought provoking lyrics, which often explore the darker realms of human experience, come across as heartfelt as intended. Songs of longing, loss, hope, love and politics are intentionally crafted and often intense and complex.
Over the years I’ve done a lot of photo and video shoots for clients, like corporate events, artist’s portraits and cover photos and family portraits. Now, because I’m so busy in the studio, I mostly use my skills for our own music visuals and videos and just for the fun of it for myself.
My college studies also include a degree in photography, so I have a love for that as well. It has always been a juggling act between music and photography, but music has always won. In the early days to support/supplement the music career I worked in the photo industry, including a company in California called Calypso Imaging. Being in the industry sort of took away my desire to shoot on my own, except when I needed art work for cds or when people I know hired me or needed a shot or 2 for something. Working in a lab with a film department allowed me free film processing, so I shot film until I decided to take the adventure to Australia. Where I worked on my 4th solo cd, met Sabine, work on our 1st ArtemesiaBlack cd and just had an extreme life adventure.
I love being a producer but sometimes I like to get out of the studio and do something else that’s fun, like doing LIVE sound in a small venue. I stumbled upon The Bowery Vault when we first moved to East Nashville in 2018. I saw shows there and loved the place and the owners Vero and Emily. I played there a few times which was really fun, then started doing sound. It’s a small room and was a vintage clothing store in the beginning with a stage for live performances. Now it’s a bar and performance/event space. The room is cool, cozy, and has a great sound. I really enjoy doing sound there because I get to meet lots of really talented artists, both famous and not and either locals or artists and bands that pass through Nashville on tour.
